There is a farmers profession for a reason, I see no fishing profession, move it back to the realm of the hobbyists where it belongs.ДЇor many years, the best crafted items required a drop from an instance (Draigoch's scale or the broken cloak clasp from Saruman). I'd much rather spend my time in game actually PLAYING the game/content rather than just sit on the bank somewhere and waste my time for so little results. It's just totally not worth it, unless they were to improve the drop rate and/or make it for specialty foods, so forget it, too much of a time sink/grind either for the actual fish OR the gold to pay for it. This new tier, judging from the drop rate of fish (not including the RNG of getting weeds, boots, etc), and the time spent fishing, I would have to invest roughly two to three weeks (or more) of nothing but fishing to craft roughly the same amount of food.

I did some rough calculations, when Minas Ithil came out I farmed/cooked plenty of food for three raiding toons, it took about a day and half, all that food lasted most if not all of the Minas Ithil expansion full of raiding and running content.

And I know that I'm not the only one that doesn't care for fishing. Not to mention that it is a HUGE time sink. The fact still remains that they are forcing an optional, outdated HOBBY into end game stuff. Sure it's optional, sure I can buy from other players/AH at hugely inflated prices, which would negate all the time and effort I've put into having a top tier guilded crafter in every profession so I could be self-sufficient. If this were optional, cooks would only need to remain cooks. This fishing malarkey is the worst one yet, and shows beyond any doubt that they have no clue how the game, crafting in particular, works.

SSG just don't understand crafting, they never have and they have no idea how important a thing it is for many players. Fishing is a 'hobby', not a 'craft' and while it's always been a quaint idea to have fish used in some recipes, or some extra recipe, it should not take major amounts of 'hobby' time to craft the main food item for end game raiding. Imagine digging into an ore node and finding some hardened mud, or chopping away at a log and only getting a termite bite. Sure hope Pontifico saved all the fish my characters have sent him to further our 'fish fry' joke. It is as optional as any other resource, you can buy them from other players.
